Can I maintain my air compressor myself?
We live in a DIY world. That’s great for those of us who know what we’re doing, but if you try to tackle something before you know your way around the task, that could be trouble. You may be asking “Can I maintain my air compressor myself?”
The answer is yes and no.
Minor maintenance, sure. With care, there are procedures just about anyone should be able to manage on their own. However, using the wrong parts or procedures can cause permanent damage which could lead to downtime and repairs, and we don’t have to tell you that costs money.
If you’re one of those people who looks for guidance on YouTube, be careful. Most of the procedures you’ll find there are not recommended and could cause serious damage to your unit, and you could even get hurt. No one wants that.
Furthermore, some things you might be compelled to do yourself- like replacing some parts and services- may void your warranty. You must use OEM parts, and services must be performed by a certified technician to maintain the warranty.
If you’re not the DIY type, our techs perform a 45-point inspection every time they visit, complete with factory-specific oil analysis and vibration testing to try to predict where your unit may experience issues in the future.
Bottom line- spend the extra money to protect your investment. Digging into your compressor yourself, unless you really know what you are doing, can end up costing you more money in the long run.
